Artist statement
Michelle S. Drummond is a contemporary mixed-media fiber artist whose practice is rooted in exploring interconnectedness and the universal factors that shape human survival. Guided by a purposeful approach, she uses art as a vessel for dialogue—enlightening, empowering, and inspiring movement. Her work extends beyond visual engagement, cultivating spaces where reflection, resilience, and connection can thrive.
Fibers are at the core of her practice, chosen for their innate strength and flexibility. These qualities naturally align with biophilic design principles, enabling her work to foster restorative environments that mirror resilience and cultural richness. Paired with organic forms, vibrant hues, and tactile surfaces, her installations and sculptures infuse warmth, whimsy, and renewal into architectural and communal spaces.
Over time, Michelle has developed a distinctive visual language that merges playfulness, innovation, and technology with fearless experimentation. She shapes multicolored and multi-weighted fibers—often bound with industrial adhesive—and integrates them with metal and wood for both structure and harmony within diverse environments. Her bold use of color draws from her Caribbean heritage, awakening emotion and inspiring connections while illuminating universal conditions of survival.
Her artistic pursuits push the boundaries of fiber art, transforming spaces into imaginative, restorative, and culturally resonant environments. Combined with technical expertise in project management and a proven ability to translate vision into large-scale installations, Michelle is uniquely equipped to create impactful works that resonate deeply with both community and place.
